Walmart has unveiled a fall event series for families that includes a Halloween Camp by Walmart, a gameday experience and a Halloween event.

The events come on the heels of the retailer’s complimentary Drive-in Movie series, at a time when shoppers are encountering a “new normal,” according to a Monday (Oct. 12) announcement.

“For many of us, football tailgates and Halloween parties are cornerstones of a great fall season,” Walmart Chief Marketing Officer William White said in the announcement. “These additional events will give customers an opportunity to still celebrate the things they love, while staying safe.”

Walmart is changing over 100 of its parking lots into socially distanced and contactless “trick-or-treat adventures” for the Halloween event. The retailer noted that children and parents are invited to attend in costume.

In addition, Walmart is holding a “farmer’s market-style event” in six college towns located in Wisconsin, Utah, Ohio, Minnesota, Michigan and Colorado for a “gameday marketplace.”

The retailer described the event as a take on the usual tailgate experience, where shoppers can don their gear while rooting for their teams and supporting local vendors.

Moreover, Camp by Walmart, which is produced in conjunction with the family experience firm CAMP and fueled by the eko interactive video platform, is debuting Halloween-themed experiences with actor Neil Patrick Harris.

In August, Walmart unveiled the details for its Walmart Drive-in, which was described as an outdoor cinema experience that would entertain shoppers with an array of movies such as “Back to the Future” and “The Goonies.” The drive-in was to be held at 160 Walmart locations nationwide, with 320 showings between Aug. 14 and Oct. 21.

“We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months, and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories,” Walmart Chief Customer Officer Janey Whiteside said in a past press release.
